THE TRIP TO OUR FIRST AUCTION IN QUALIUM BEACH CURLING CLUB

Well, I think it's time to give out some information about our last trip, just so you don't think that all trips are
"The trip from Hell".
This is about our last auction that we held in Qualicum Beach Curling Club on Vancouver Island.

Well, everything started out like any trip over to the island with a one ferry wait, we got there at 4:30pm for a 5:45pm ferry to Duke Point and were told that we might make it on. Well, the booth person was wrong as we were at least 15 trucks from making it on and now we are boxed in and can't even change our minds to go to Sannich and drive up the highway.
So wait we did till the 8:15pm ferry to get in to Qualicum about 11:00pm.
When we got there we decided to drive by the Curling Club to see what we had to deal with the next morning (we rented the Curling Club without seeing it first).

Since, in the morning 2 - 53 foot trailers with all the auction items would arrive,  we drove down one side of the building (no doors) go to the back (no doors) turn around and drive by the front ( door with stairs, this won't work ). At last, on the final side there are 3 double doors that we can forklift the pallets of hardwood and misc items into the building - except for one problem, grass! Yep, there is a lawn of about 30 feet from the pavement to the doors.

All I could see is one heck of a lot of work so at my insistence we left to find some whiskey to drown the problem that night and figured we would deal with the problem in the morning.
The next day when we saw it in the day light we noted that nothing had changed. It was still a heck of a way from the road and now the trucks are here waiting to be unloaded. Off to the lumber yard we go and buy a lot of 5/8th plywood to build a road over the lawn to protect it. Everything worked well and we got the loads in real easy and didn't even have to have any whiskey that nite. (just a couple of Ceasers)

Rich talked to a fellow sitting on the bus stop bench out front and had him come into work for the next 2 days and he was a good worker.
This was really one of the better auctions as the grass was the biggest problem and the auction went smoothly. All the items were paid for and the last person to pick up on Sunday arrived at the building by 9:00am Sunday morning.

So, for once here are some of the good items.
We stayed at the Seaview Cabins right on the ocean shore and had a beach fire each night and we got some awsome sunset pictures. We found a good pub "Deez" which had good food and lots of it ( "ceasars" were pretty good to ).
The people of Qualicum were very friendly, talking to every one no matter where you went.
They put on a good farmers market on Saturday morning beside the curling club.

We liked our stay so much we stayed over another day & night, again we had a beach fire and a great sunset watching the Alaskan Cruise Ships go by.

Just a good time but now its Monday and we have to go home so off to the ferry terminal and true to form we had to wait for one more ferry to get back to the mainland. Oh well, had a little time for some carving while we waited.

This was one of those good trips that we remember but don't often write about.

Ron & Ruth

Hey! How can you tell you have been married too long? (43 years)

Well,  when you come home and the wife tells you that she backed into the trailer and bent the truck bumper and bent the hitch on the trailer and you were driving the other truck & box trailer when you busted the railing off some steps when the trailer your towing hits it.
That's when you are doing to many things alike. All this happened at about the same hour.

I guess it is just 2 minds thinking alike, good or bad!
